Independent Adjusters are private contractors hired by licensed insurers to review or settle insurance claims.
You cannot submit claims directly to independent adjusters via HCAI as they do not appear on the HCAI insurers list. Only licensed insurance companies are registered to receive electronic claims via HCAI. However, some insurance companies register independent adjusters or independent adjusting companies on HCAI as a branch.
In order to submit claims to independent adjusters not listed as a branch, you will want to find out what licensed insurance company they represent.
You can:
- Contact the adjuster
- Ask the patient for the name of the licensed insurance company that insures them
- Look into the police accident report
In either case, you will want to record the name and contact information of the independent adjuster in the patient file.
We have put together a how-to article to help you submit claims to the attention of independent adjusters via HCAI. See How to Submit Claims to the Attention of Independent Insurance Adjusters.
Some of the most popular independent insurance adjusters are ClaimsPro, Crawford, Cunningham Lindsey, McLarens, ProFormance Group, and Shumka Craig & Moore, to name a few.
