HCAI Welcomes Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund

Effective August 1, 2017, the Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund (MVACF) is going to be added to the HCAI insurer list. It will go by the name of “FSCO Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund.”

The OCF-18, OCF-23, OCF-21, and FORM 1 directed to MVACF will have to be submitted through HCAI starting August 1, 2017, regardless of the accident date.

In order to submit from Universal Office, you will first want to add “FSCO – Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund” as the insurer into the Insurance Companies library in Administration Setup.

For help with adding a new insurer, please refer to the Add and Manage Insurance Companies article available from the Universal Office Help Centre.

Process MVACF Claims

  1. Note, that when creating a new case in Universal Office or completing an OCF-18, OCF-23, OCF-21, and FORM 1 for an MVACF claimant you are required to insert the case number and the incident number assigned by the MVACF as follows:
    • The Case Number goes into Claim No., and
    • The Incident Number goes into Policy No.
  2. For help submitting an OCF-21 for an OCF-18 approved prior to August 1, 2017 or for an OCF-23 that was submitted prior to August 1, 2017, you will want to submit it as described in the How to Submit Invoices to a Different Insurer from the One Specified in OCF-23 or OCF-18 article on our Knowledge Base.

Now that the MVACF is on HCAI, you can submit claim forms electronically as opposed to having to process those claims manually as it was done before this guideline taking effect. We see it as a positive change because at the end of the day, it will save your practice management time and effort.

For additional information about this latest guideline, see Bulletin No. A-02/17 on FSCO’s website.
