As many of you know, FSCO in its Bulletin No. A-01/18 has confirmed that starting October 1, 2018, all facilities enrolled with HCAI must submit Form 1 (Assessment of Attendant Care Needs) to insurers electronically. The purpose of this change is to make it easier for healthcare providers to submit and track, and for insurers to better monitor and adjudicate those forms.
The HCAI Fall 2018 System update is scheduled for October 1, 2018. During that system update, HCAI will be unavailable from 5:00p.m. (EDT) on Friday, September 28, 2018, until 8:00a.m. (EDT) on Monday, October 1, 2018. Just like the spring update, the fall one will not impact practice management systems (PMS) such as Universal Office.
Since we integrated the Form 1 electronic submission into HCAI into Universal Office back in 2016 when it was introduced by FSCO on voluntary basis, Universal Office is fully ready for the HCAI Fall 2018 System update.
Keep in mind:
- Form 1 can only be completed by Occupational Therapists or Registered Nurses.
- Healthcare facilities cannot use both submission methods (electronic and paper) simultaneously. Once your facility starts submitting Assessment of Attendant Care Needs electronically, it should continue to do so.
- Invoices for attendant care services will continue to be submitted and processed outside of the HCAI system.
If your facility hasn’t begun submitting Form 1 electronically using Universal Office or the HCAI web channel, it’s time to start.
