As a result of an independent study, WSIB recognized that the allowable billing rates were below the industry standards. This has resulted in an amended fee schedule effective February 25, 2008 for twelve health professions. The professions included in the review were: audiology, chiropody, chiropractic, massage therapy, occupational therapy, optometry, physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, registered nurse (extended class), social work and speech-language pathology.
The revised rates were determined using a market-based methodology to develop a one-time, baseline adjustment in an attempt to bring existing fees to a level more reflective of current market conditions in Ontario. The chiropractic rate has increased to $30.56 for the initial visit and $25.00 for the subsequent visits. The acupuncture rate is $38.78, and the massage therapy rate is $50.00.
