Manulife Financial has just released its annual fee schedule of reasonable and customary fees for health practitioners. The schedule is used when evaluating group benefit claims for health practitioners under Manulife’s Extended Health Care and Major Medical programs.
In particular, the 2009 fee schedule shows no change in the fees for chiropractors and physiotherapists in Ontario since last year, and minimal changes since 2007. This holds true for both initial fees and fees for subsequent treatments. What is noteworthy is that Ontario’s fees are considerably higher than fees in most other provinces, with its chiropractor fees being the highest for initial assessments at $180, and second highest for subsequent treatments at $63. Meanwhile, Ontario’s physiotherapists charge the third highest initial assessment fees at $134, and the second highest subsequent fees at $84. It seems like Ontario is a relatively costly place to receive these treatments!
The following chart summarizes the fees for chiropractors and physiotherapists in Ontario for 2009. These estimates were obtained from published fee schedules from provincial associations wherever possible. In the absence of published fee schedules, Manulife used typical fees from provincial associations as well as surveyed responses from practitioners. We encourage you to view the full document.
