SoftEther VPN: The Alternative to Hamachi for Company VPN

Effective immediately, we will no longer be setting up Hamachi for company VPN connections. Instead, we will use and recommend SoftEther VPN. SoftEther VPN is known for its reliability, security, and compatibility.

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) have become an essential tool for organizations that want to provide secure remote access to their office networks. VPNs encrypt data transmission, ensuring a high level of security during remote access.

To access Universal Office from outside the office, you need to establish a connection with your office network. While there are a few alternatives available, VPN is the most practical and secure solution for this use case.

When we first covered remote access for Universal Office in our How to Access Your Data on the Go article, Hamachi was a viable option. However, as technology has evolved, better alternatives have become available.

After carefully considering the issues experienced by many users following recent Hamachi updates, we’ve been working on finding a more reliable solution. Our extensive research led us to SoftEther VPN.

Developed and maintained by the University of Tsukuba, SoftEther VPN is an open-source academic project that has been praised by IT professionals worldwide for its strong encryption, high-performance networking, stability, and cross-platform compatibility. You can learn more about this project on the SoftEther VPN Project homepage.

One major advantage of SoftEther VPN over Hamachi is that it operates as a proprietary system handing you complete control over the setup and direction of traffic between client and server. With SoftEther VPN, all traffic travels directly from your client PC to the VPN server at your office, eliminating the need for third-party servers used in the Hamachi network.

To help you get started, we have prepared a set of instructions that will guide you through the installation and configuration of SoftEther VPN server and clients. You can find this set of instructions posted on our Help Centre under the SoftEther VPN category of articles.

Additionally, we offer a setup service for a one-time nominal fee, which includes lifetime support. Should you require assistance with the setup, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team. They will be more than happy to help you and schedule an appointment for VPN setup.

We are confident that SoftEther VPN will provide your practice with a superior VPN experience, enhancing the security and convenience of accessing Universal Office remotely. Should you have any further questions or concerns, our support team is here to assist you at any time.

And as always let us know your experiences with SoftEther VPN in the comments below.
